END OF YEAR REFLECTION ESSAY


Looking back to September 2012, what were your original expectations of this art class? (art techniques, art concepts, materials, projects)
I honestly thought it would be the most boring class ever being that its so much work and things to learn , But it wasn't it it was really fun and easy and a life learning experience that I will always take with me where ever I go.



 How did this class meet, exceed or fail your expectations? Be specific, give examples.
This class taught me how to work with Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop , and other programs. We learned how to make something look so real and how to really be creative and always think outside of the box and just being original and organized. We did a lot of fun things in this class which is what I was hoping I would have but wasn't sure and I did . This class taught me a lot , most I can use for career wise .


What were your (3) greatest challenges in this class? Were you able to overcome them? How did you accomplish this?
My greatest challenges was trying to finish in time and do each assignment to the best of my ability . Since I always want to do something perfect , sometimes making things perfect takes time and patience which sometimes I don't have but I made it work . To accomplish this  I would just be very organized and arrange everything so that it was easy and then the next day I would start putting it all together day by day. I took my time but put a lot of work into each aspect of the assignment and I'd like to say that all of my projects came out pretty good.


If you could take this class again, what would YOU do differently?
If I could take this class again id go to infinity and beyond with my projects and make everything pop , I'd try to make mines better than everyone Else's just so I stand out as well as my work . I'm good at what I do I just wish I was better , And I will be because I'm going to use these skills I have from this class when I leave from this school and the more I use it the better I will get at it.


Would you recommend this class to another student? Explain why?
yes I would recommend this class . Its a great class and teaches you a lot not just about graphics but how things are set up and how things work . It teaches you to do an amazing job , have patience , good thinking , creative skills , and can be really useful to the outside world believe it or not.

(projects, setup, materials, time, etc).
I honestly have no recommendations to improve this class is great just the way it is.


Did this class help you to become more comfortable being creative and trying out new materials and art concepts?
This class did help me become more comfortable and creative and now I know how to use things I never knew how to use before . I like to think that this class improved my creativity skills , before I would just pick whatever idea or topic but now I think outside the box and always want to do something different and being that I can expand more on my creativity I do just that.


What career are you considering to study in college? Did this class help you get
closer to your career/college goals? How so?
I want to do criminal justice or be a forensic scientist . This class helped me because I can use my creativity skills to do something in those Fields and who knows maybe know one else knows how to and I can be that star worker that just makes everything nice and detailed also if I want a side job I can do work for companies and made some extra money.


What are your goals for school next year? What will be your greatest challenge?
My goals for next year is to most likely take photography which i can also use to the career choice that I want because art is everywhere so if I study all of this now and then go to college for my career choice I will be all set . I'll have everything I need.

End of year show map proposal

    The theme of my map is describe what I like in life what I have passion for what I enjoy doing, Its about what I find beautiful in life. 
The point of view of my map is subjective, I love flowers, the look the smell, the feeling, and the insects that it attracts.
    I want to do my map according to the different flowers in the different Countries. For example, in Argentina the flower is Ceibo (Enrythrina Crista - Galli), In Belgium it’s a red popper (Papaver Rhoeas), and in Brazil the flower is the Cattleya orchid (Cattleya Labiata). Each country or state has a different popular flower.  The information and how I can attain that information would be Google, and a website that has a list of all countries and states and the main popular flower in each one. http://www.theflowerexpert.com
     My theme for the map will be realistic because these are the real national and popular flowers in our countries and states and regions . The colors are going to be bright and colorful being that they are flowers and flowers have many colors and they’re beautiful, I would use an italic looking script Font. For example, Apple Chancery
     I chose this theme because flowers are what make our planet beautiful I don’t think anyone realizes just how amazing flowers are. It provides the natural nutrients for insects and is an edible food source to most animals. Flowers are important and a beautiful addition to earth. That’s why I want to do my map on flowers

MYBLOCK NYC Video Project

            My Block is a mapping website of videos of people and an insight into their life and the different cultures of others . Eventually the videos of everyone will map out new york city . On this website which is http://myblocknyc.com/#/welcome , you can upload videos about your everyday life or surroundings or anything you like in the area you live in and you show people who you are through your video .
            For this assignment I was asked to take footage of my family or my block or my neighborhood or just anything I like to do favorite sport , Deli , Restaurant , something that represented me and what I love . after taking footage I would upload my videos onto iMovie and edit , or crop or add effects and sounds to it . at the end of this process i would end up with what looks like a short film . For my assignment I just used MY BLOCK for examples and iMovie to do my video . for my video what I did was :
1. Got footage of my household
2. Took photos of my house , where I live , train and stop , and my school
3. Recorded the deli down the block from me because its my favorite deli and the people there are like family .
4. I placed all my photos and videos into iMovie and edited added music and put effects on my photos to make it better
5. Then when I played it , it became a short film and was really nice
           The purpose of this task was to express who we are and share with others , and have fun pretending to be directors . It was a good experience .
           My video is about MY LIFE . or at least that's what I named it , its really about my after school life starting from me getting out of school going to the train station at Morris park and then going to my house on Baychester and then what its like when I walk in the house and the fact that I'm sent to the store almost everyday and there I see my second family/friends . I chose this subject because its about me you can get a good glimpse of who I am by what I recorded . you can tell that I'm very loved and I have people who I'm close to and that I'm a great person . Its important to me because i want people to know what kind of person I am and who i am and how the people around me are . I want people to have an insight into my lifestyle , I mean isn't that what MY BLOCK is about .. Other people I would recommend to do this as well because then they too can express and relate to others and share who they are . maybe someone might see it and they can get recognized if it happens to be a video of someone playing a sport .
           My video can make a social change because in a way your meeting new people , getting to know new people . who knows ? maybe someone lives right by you and you watch their video and share common interests and maybe you can even meet if you just happen to see them and become great friends . MY BLOCK isn't just a way to geographically map out new york city you can also meet new people . By watching the videos on MY BLOCK you know what the video will be about .
           For this project I found editing and finishing the video to be fun because I can see how it all plays out and looks and how much effort I put into making the video also for the poster I loved as well to design it I felt like a movie director and I just directed a movie an was designing my own movie cover and it was just a fun and interesting assignment . I didn't have any trouble or find anything hard with the project . I liked it too much to take any thing as a challenge . If I had more time to work on this project I would make the video longer and more better than I did . This project was relevant to my personal life because I have some type of experience with making films and making posters . To improve this project you can take your time but not too much and put all your energy and thoughts and creativity into one video slide and make sure when your done its to your standards . Make sure you did it to the best of your ability push yourself and just hope for an amazing outcome ..

CUP Project Reflextion

In Graphic design , we were asked to create button designs to later on actually create buttons . Two people came in and they introduced themselves and spoke to us about voting the lady told us about how people want to change voting rights and that the task we are going to do is make buttons that will send that message about having the right to vote . To complete these buttons i went on google and i used some of the template designs that were already there for us as an example we also got a chance to meet turbo vote and ask them questions and find out more about voting . The steps to creating my button designs was :
1. i opened the file buttons template
2. then i copied the outline of the button
3. i made designs and organized my document from quotes , to designs , and swatches .
4. i took images like heart patters , floral print patters , galaxy patters and i converted it into a swatch and then place it in the circle and took a quote that i had layed out and placed it in there as well .
5. after this i had to resize the button designs so that it fit and when i cut it out it can later be placed with a button
6. finally when i was done with the designs i cut them out and then i got a plastic sheer and a button front and back put them all together in the machine and pressed down and out came a button .
The purpose of this task or assignment was to have a voice . to kinda protest or make voting right pins that relate to things that are important like " 18- deserve to vote " or " Let us vote ".
To have the right to vote you have to be 18 or older and a citizen of the us and meets the residency requirement of his or her state . People who are not allowed to vote are younger than 18 if they aren't a US citizen or if they're incarcerated . I don't think this is right and i don't believe the system is right . we all live here and we all deserve fairness . where your in jail or not people still want to have someone fair and just to be in charge they should have a say people make mistakes but that doesn't mean that they aren't human or live in our area or have been shipped off to another planet . they're still here so they deserve a say and for younger kids we have the right to choose who we want in charge of us . we all make up the US so we all should be able to vote , if i could id change that . This project changed how i saw the system and my view on voting because i honestly didn't know what i know now . and it opened my eyes . it made me realize we are all not equal or a democracy because we all don't have the same rights . To change this i would want to start a protest , and put my topic out there so that others that want the right to vote as well can agree with me .
Civic engagement means issues of public concern . Art plays a part in civic development because art is used in many ways , such as getting your point across or make an idea you have pop and have others gravitate to the message your trying to say . As a graphic designer it is important to help make a positive impact because people who's attention you caught not only are they interested in your topic but also your art skills . I would like to publicize waste and pollution in the air . you can take pictures of smoke and garbage and dirty rivers and put it into one thing and but it stand out .
  My views on the political system is that its an influence on its people and the economy should be .I found making the buttons to be more fun , I got to design and actually cute it out , put it together and stamp it onto that machine . There was no challenging these buttons everything was spoken , and for being so quiet . I wouldn't do anything different . I'd pretty much do the same thing ... if only I had more time I'd make more buttons .  This project wasn't related to my art work but i can still use what i learned sometime in the near future . 

Voting Ideas

In the United States there are specific requirements for the voting process . For example to be eligable to vote you have to be a US citizen , 18 years old by the date of the general election , A resident of your present address for at least 30 days before the election , Not in jail or on parole for a felony conviction , and Not claiming the right to vote elsewhere . People take voting for granted . 206,072,000 americans are eligable to vote . Eligibility to vote in the U.S. is determined by both federal and state law . In almost all states, you can register by mail to vote using the Nation mail voter registration form . You may be able to apply to register to vote in person at the following public facilities : State or local voter registration and/or Election Offices , The department of motor vehicles , Public assistance , agencies , Armed services of recruitment Centers , State-funded programs that serve people with disabilities ,  and Any public facility that a state has designated as a voter registration agency . Three Reasons why voting is important to an individual is because most people want to feel like they have a say in who can make the desisions in our economy and try to help make this world a better place , also if the president they want is picked they will feel like they helped make that happen they helped that accomplishment come true and that they played an important part in todays history and choosing who our president is one of the easiest ways you can voice your opinion in a democracy. It gives you a chance to choose your own leaders and make them accountable for your development . Voting is Important for a society because this way you know what the people want and meet their needs , and parents can vote for their children who cant vote and try to help make sure they live a safe peaceful life while they have the opportunity . and one last thing its important because it honors history . Based on current events there are countries and in our world that has been greatly affected by an election . For example , the  residency of Abranham Lincoln . When Lincoln was elected being what he stood for and the fact that many people didnt agree with his way of thinking he would recieve threats all because he stood up for the people who had no voice or wasnt allowed to have a voice . Lincoln helped win freedom for Blacks after defeating the South in the Civil War. His Emancipation Proclamation helped Blacks gain their freedom after the U.S. regained control of the Confederacy. Lincoln had some of the most difficult problems any president ever had to face, and he died a hero.

career and college reflective essay

The task i was asked to complete was i was supposed to figure out what i want to do when im out of highschool and what college i want to attend , so my teacher assigned for us to go onto this website called collegeboard.com and on there i can type in the exact major i would like to study and i chose forensic science . it directed me to colleges such as john jay , SUNY at alfred state , and many other colleges being that im only inerested in new york colleges i chose these two although we were supposed to pick three i only chose two because i didnt see any other ones in the state of new york that i was interested in . To complete my task the steps i used was the following :
1. i typed up " forensic science " in the search box
2.i press enter and it directs me to a lists of ideas to figure out what type of forensic science im interested in
3. i chose the one that had DNA , blood , fingerprinting , and crime scenes and victims
4. i click onto that specific idea
5. Many different colleges pop up with that specific major that they are known for .
6. i pick a college
7. i type up the name in a new tab and research all the information about that specific college
8. i find out the GPA and see if i have one close to it or i make it my goal to get close to it
9.then i write down all my information on a paper that was assigned to us .
10 . then im finished with that
The purpose of this assignment was to help guide us and start preparing now while we have a chance to find the school we want and fit everything thats required for it and if we have , then we continue to do what we're doing .
My GPA is currently a 2.0 which is a C average . The GPA of a student is important because most schools are known for how high their students GPA scores are so you have to make sure you have what they want if you want to get into their school . According to your GPA thats how they choose you , they have to make sure your a hard working student and your very serious aboout your school work and they can tell all of that by how high your GPA is .
My passion for forensic science can influence possible careers because i know what i want to do and what im looking for , so by knowing that it makes the search more easier to do , im interested in forensic science because i want to be that person to find out how a person died , and what exactly happend , i want to be a smart person that is good in the lab and can analyze all these things at a crime scene and i always wanted to grow up and investigate like law and order , CSI , NCIS , and criminal minds.
I chose only two schools and as i listed above they are :
1. john jay
2. SUNY at alfred state
Im confident in the decision i made and im going to stick to it , knowing the feild  i want to work in and knowing that there are schools out there for me that i really like makes it better . This career is a good choice for me because its what i want to do .
I need to bring my grades up much much higher my goal is a 4.0 GPA to me its crazy and a long way to go but i will try my best to make it happen because i want to go to this school and if not one of the two i chose then a really good school that has at least some forensic science in it . besides if i do change my mind which i doubt i can have a variety of choices because of my GPA . i want to attend tutoring and studying way more and most likely taking practice tests .
I think i can accomplish this by next year because i am going to try my best .

The Poster Project Reflective Essay

The Assignment that i was asked to do was combine the 4 symbol elements , My Identity Poem , and the key words , into one project . I learned that you can do a different project and combine it all together and murge it into one whole thing . I used the align tool and i copied and pasted what i needed to do and placed it all on different layers to organize it . The steps used to complete this project is :
1. I already had my poem on one document so i just locked the layer
2. I copied and pasted my 4 - identity symbols placed it to the side and also locked that layer
3. I copied and pasted my 4 key words and locked that layer as well
4. Then i found the words in my poem that matched my key words and i replaced it and shrunk the size to make it fit better .
5. I then made a border around the page using two of my 4 identity symbols , i used the zebra and the lawnmower and i incorporated the colors of the grassy theme with it .
6. Then i used the face and placed in the middle of my poem and changed the colors to match the blue and green
7. I saved my project and my project was complete .

I think this poster is a success because it wasn't hard at all , maybe at first but its only because i didn't understand it . But overall it was easy and i finished and i think it turned out very nice . The work elements that worked well would have to be the 4 identity symbols . It was the easiest to come up with an idea for and its a nice layout . i wouldn't have designed anything differently and I'm not just saying that because i feel that would make more work for me I'm saying that because it fit with my perfect perfectly . i think adding them all together it made each individual element a lot nicer and it gave it a purpose to really pop !.

I really liked this assignment , we got more time and i took my time and used it wisely and i had fun doing it . i learned that with graphic design you really can do almost anything and its just amazing how much you can learn and do using graphic design . And the tools used really helps even more . i learned that with this software you can have a ton of fun and complete a 45 minute project and make it look like  a months worth of work its simply that amazing . it was easy and i overcame no problems at all because i honestly didn't face any .

I can connect this with my chemistry class . i say this because its like designing a chemistry poster and adding all these individual things and making it into one big thing . As far as the real world you it can be used if you have a job and your asked to create a poster design . The project that i completed can help me in many ways and i learned a lot from it and will use it later in life

Alphabet Reflective Essay

For this project i was asked to complete a chart of alphabets , using the letters " o " and " i " . using these letters i was able to complete the entire alphabet . i learned that each letter is made up out of o and i and that i did not know before . for this project i used adobe illustrator and i used pathfinder to arrange the o and i to make the other letters . i also used the selection tool to move it around and place it where i want to . the steps i used to do this was : 

1. first i made an o and i to the size and length i wanted it to be 

2. i played around with the letters and started making easy simple letters like an a , or a b .

3.i continued this process until i had full rows of alphabets 

4. i added the swatch of my 4 symbol project and placed it in my letters

5.i arranged my letters so that its even and looks nice 

my artwork looks a lot like my 4 symbol project , it contains the same colors . and i think its extremely creative it looks really green and earthy like a global warming theme or a nice day outside but in the form of letters . 

I created this project using the same theme from my four symbol project and i i created all the letters and made it into my own thing . i combined the concept because i added green at the top and bottom and the middle contained both blue and green . a challenge i had in this project was making one letter , the " s " it was hard to combine the c and make it into a perfect s , as you can see it still isn't that perfect but its good enough . my alphabet matches my identity precisely . 

I felt really good about the assignment . i learned from it and it was fun and simple and a good way to express your creativity . i learned how to make letters of the entire alphabet out of o and i . i learned that this software can be used for many different things . and it is very useful and has many things to make whatever your doing pop , and stand out . i learned that if i really try and put my mind to something i can do it because when i first saw the project i assumed it would be hard until i found ways to make it easier and fun for me . this project was easy and a little hard but i did it and finished it no problem . i overcame my problems by asking for help which i should do more often and it became easier and i understood it more . 

I can use something like this to teach another student not nessassarily for myself because the only time i can do something like this is in graphic design but i can help another student . and for the real world this can be used if i want to major in graphic design . and i would feel extremely proud of myself if i am able to do that . 

4 Identity Symbols Reflective Essay

For This project we were to create a 4 identity symbol using 4 elements such as plant , tool , animal , and human . I learned that one thing can be used in many different ways and can be made up of many different things . I learned how to use the clipping mask tool and the swatches tool to make my zebra and combine things such as grass and a lawnmower and a human using that specific object . I used the computer , google , adobe illustrator CS5.1 , and the paper given with the following instructions to do the project . The steps i used to complete this assignment was : 
1. I got an idea , 
2. I put that idea on paper which was a zebra , which became my first element ( animal ) .
3. I dragged a photo in adobe illustrator and i dimmed the photo and locked it then i added a new layer with the photo in it and i used the pen tool to outline the figure of the zebra 
i locked that layer and got the idea to use a swatch to combine grass and a sky into my zebra figure 
5. I then got a lawnmower and traced that figure like i did in step 3 . and i added the main colors im using in this project which is green , white , and gray . 
6. I locked that layer and moved onto my next one which was my last element being i already used 3 .
7. I got an image of a human face and outlined it and added those same colors . 
8. I locked all layers and my project was complete .
My artwork looks like a going green campain , it expresses the elements that have to do with a zebra and its enviroment . zebras eat grass thats what thats for and grass is cut by lawnmowers which is why thats there and humans use lawnmowers to cut grass . each element i have has to do with one another .

A symbol is something that represents an idea, a process, or a physical entity. i came up with the idea that i did based off of i personally like zebras they aren't dangerous animals and they're source of food is grass they aren't like tigers who go around eating other animals and praying they eat on grass which is pure in my opinion . i came up with each 4 symbols like i said because each symbol has to do with the other and it makes the entire project come together . This zebra and this entire project repesents me because i'm pure and i have a specific love for earth and the color green and what it repesents . 

i felt that this assignment was a good one it gave us students a chance to learn new things and used what we know to complete something . this project helps us put things together and organize and plan out things and show how one thing can be many or in this case a 4 symbol identity project . i learn that in graphic design its not about just using tools in the specific document you have to use your mind and imagination , you have to put things together in your mind before you can get it out on paper , you have to search deep within yourself and find that hidden part in you an d get an idea from it . this project showed me i can do that that i can be creative and combine all these things and make it meaningful and make it make sense . it wasn't easy but i did it so that shows me its was extremely hard and i could do it if i work hard and put my mind to it . i overcame them by thinking positive and not so much bout time and what others would think about it what mattered was what i thought about it how i felt about it .if i could improve two things it would be a little more creativity and thought now that i know i can do better and i would use my time more wisely . 

This project will help me in other classes such as photography and fashion after school , i can use my creativity skills and it also will help me with future projects i have to do now ill know what to do and which tool does what and ill know how to make my project pop . and stand out . this project really motivated me to want to do more with other projects and in life .

Why Blog ?

1. I was asked to make a blog for graphic design because making a blog in a way can show others what your like , and who you are without really saying it in words . People can learn a lot about you which is Good .

2. Designing and writing a blog can help you career and future wise because if your into art having an artistic blog shows mostly what you love and want to do . and colleges will look at that and see that you enjoy what you do and that your talented and know what you want in life . say if you like photography having that type of blog shows exactly what kind of things you love taking pictures of or what your interested in .

3.Blogs are used by creating a title that makes up what your blog is and having things on there that describe you , what you love , and what you want to do .

4. If people enjoy whats on your blog and find comfort like benefit from what your blog brings more and more people will see and word gets around and if its extremely good someone important can see and also see what you do which will be good , because you can possibly go far with that .

5. A blogger can earn money from their efforts because if you blog things that other people are interested in your blog becomes popular and more and more people see it and if someone wants you to make a blog for them or promote something you can actually get money .
